This is the fun part…your elevator pitch! An elevator pitch is essentially a quick recap of your background, your experiences, and passions, all wrapped up in a conversion that is able to be had in an elevator ride. Your elevator pitch should be persuasive, brief, share your skills, and mention your goals. Sound intimidating? It’s not! We will walk you through the steps to help you create the best elevator pitch for you! Click the “begin crafting your story button”.

We will begin by thinking about strengths. Your strengths say a lot about you as a candidate, so think about what you know you do really well, and think of examples of when you used a specific strength. Examples of strengths can include things such as critical thinking, problem-solving, creativity, leadership, teamwork…think about the things you know you do well and things that you can bring to the table. Your strengths should align with the role you are most interested in.  How do you find skills that align? Look at Job Descriptions for a role you want! You can find buzzwords for the skills you already have.

When you have finished inputting your 3 strengths, click the “continue to next question” button.

Next, are motivations. What are your motivations? This seems like a very simple question, but it’s not! Odds are many of us are motivated to work because of the money. Delicious coffees, rent, and gas are not free! So while money might be a motivation, dig a bit deeper and really think about what motivates you when it comes to work. Are you motivated by setting goals, mentoring, the company’s culture and work environment, competitive environments, or the challenge of learning new things? Think about the things that make you want to have that specific job, or work in that specific field.

Once your 3 motivations are input, click the “continue to next question” button.

Next is providing descriptions of how your peers would describe you. This question gives hiring managers a better understanding of your personality and self-awareness. Because it is an open-ended question, think about yourself from a peer’s perspective. These traits will show a hiring manager exactly how your traits can benefit their company, so be honest, and think back to your strengths! Choose adjectives that relate to your work ethic, and emphasize soft skills to help you stand out.

Once you have your 3 skills, click the “continue to next question” button.

This section will allow you to expand your answer a bit, and provide the abiit for you to highlight a past experience where you demonstrated leadership or responsibility. A key element to answering this question, is to tell about what you did and what the impact was on the organization.

Once you have this example, click the “continue to next question” button.

The last question to finalize your elevator pitch, is to think of the fields you are actively seeking opportunities in. This section is not displayed on your candidate card but is important for us at Shift to understand what you are interested in and get you in front of the right partners.Career fields that align with the talent needs of our partner network include Project & Program Management, Sales & Business development, Customer Operations & Support, Software & Data Science, and HR, People Operations, & Recruiting.
