Final Thoughts

  • There is no need to include a long list of random military awards or irrelevant certifications.
  • Do not just copy and paste your OERs/NCOERs, OPR/EPRs, FITREPs, etc.
  • Have several others trusted friends and mentors proofread your resume for you.
  • Create a master document with dozens of bullets that you can plug and play into a tailored resume.  There is no law that says you must include everything you’ve ever done in the military on your resume.  Stick with what is relevant to the role you are trying to get!
  • Ensure you are checking your resume against each job description using www.jobscan.co or https://skillsyncer.com/
  • Always send your resume as a PDF and with a professional file name that is consistent with the name on your LinkedIn profile, email, etc.
